1. DIY or Salon treatment
First of all, you have to decide that either you would go for salon treatment or you’ll do it yourself at home. if you don’t know how to apply Keratin treatment, then leave it to salon expert. It can almost less damaging to do at home but it doesn’t last long. Because a salon professional has the expertise to manage tricky situations like if you have light hair color, a salon professional can adjust the formula to retain the tonality of your shade. It can cost you a bit more but it’ll also feel you the difference in results.
2. Understand the process
Actually keratin doesn’t smooth your hair, its the treatment, that brings the results. In this procedure keratin treatment product is applied at your hair and then the heat of flat iron is used to straighten the hair.
3. Avoid formaldehyde-releasing products
Some keratin treatments are available in the market which contains ingredients that release formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a chemical that is harmful to human health because it can cause allergic reactions of the skin, lungs, and eyes, it can also cause cancer as well. So always ask from salon professional that the product he/she is going to apply is formaldehyde-free or not. Formaldehyde is frequently used in salons but it dangerous to use even often.
Step 2. Washing hair & Creating sections
1. Washing with Anti residue shampoo
Apply shampoo to your hair and massage it gently then leave it for almost 5 minutes, and then rinse it out. Apply it once again and ensure to rinse thoroughly after that.
Anti residue shampoo makes your hair smooth and balanced. It also prepares your hair to absorb the keratin treatment. This shampoo is also known as clarifying shampoo.
2. Blow-dry your hair
Now blow dry your hair according to your product requirement. Each treatment has a different requirement such as Brazilian treatment slightly requires the (80-90 % dry) but for a keratin treatment, you have to completely dry your hair. So it’s important for you to check the product’s instructions first.
3. Section your hairs
Now take a comb and divide your hair from middle and create almost four to eight sections depending on the length of your hair. Clip-in, each section tightly so that it got secure during the keratin process.
Step 3. Start treatment and drying process
1. Strictly follow the product guidelines
The product or a Keratin treatment that you apply consists of the complete instructions inside the pack. So kindly follow all the guidelines and safety precautions ( mentioned by the manufacturer ) to avoid any inconvenience. And if there is any ambiguity in the application then you can get assistance from the directions.
2. Apply product equally to your hair
First of all, wear gloves or old cloth for safety measures. Now take a section of hair and apply the keratin product, starting from the small portion and extending it until coated your whole hairs, but don’t oversaturate hairs. you have to use a fine-tooth comb or coloring brush to get the product into each section from roots to ends. Once you completed it, clip up each section to tighten it.
3. Let the product stick for 20-25 minutes
cover your hair with a shower cap and let the product stay to your hair for the suggested time. Leave it for at least 20-25 minutes but the best way is to follow the product instructions.
4. Dry your hair
Remove shower cap and clips from hair. Don’t rinse hairs until the product instructions allow to do so. Blow-dry your hair in the existence of a product. You can use a hot or cold drier, according to the nature of the product and its instructions.

set the temperature at the flat iron recommended by the product guidelines for your specific hair type. Once iron reaches the accurate temperature, straight your hair in small sections ( almost one to two-inch thick). Clip up your sections, once you finished straightening hair. A flat iron with excess heat can cause your hair breakage.

1. Avoid washing hair up to 03 days
If you wash your hair soon after treatment, it’ll shorten the life of keratin treatment. Washing hair after one week of treatment is a much better option. If you have some skin disturbances, you can use dry shampoo for a quick wash.
2. Don’t use hair ties for at least two days
Avoid using clips or elastic bands for the next two days after a keratin treatment. you can use the fabric bands if you want to keep your face away from hair. Actually, hair ties or clips can create a crease in your hair. it can spoil the keratin treatment early on.
3. Avoid dying or heating your hair
If you want keratin to remain last longer, then just avoid hair styling or hair dying using heat. Gently apply shampoo as required and avoid the conditioner. The sulfate-free shampoo will be a better choice for your hair.
